In a complete renovation of a bayside A-frame home on Fire Island, Bromley Caldari turned a seasoned beach rental into a sleek hide-out. Rethinking the iconic 1960s A-frame form, architects R. Scott Bromley and Jerry Caldari broke through the envelope of the building to weave a sculptural staircase through the airy three-story structure.
My best friend, Rachel, caught a fish at the lake in 2003. She was using bread to bait them. I didn’t have the patience, so I wandered off to find shell fossils or maybe smooth, flat stones good for skipping across the water. The next thing I knew she was squealing in excitement and we were all running over to see what she had caught.
This is one of my first memories, and definitely my first fish-related memory.
Three years ago, on April 22nd, 2011, Rachel accidentally overdosed on medication originally prescribed to her mother. She was found dead the next morning. I still haven’t really dealt with it, but I like to use her story to try and tell people not to abuse prescription drugs. Drugs in general, really, but especially drugs that weren’t prescribed to you.
